Observations from Stretford Mall event
As part of our event in Stretford, we asked the local community for their thoughts and feelings about services they valued within the local area, as well as those that they felt were missing. By plotting this on a map we were able to see patterns. I chose to analyse the square below, which showed that people wanted access to a more diverse night time economy, as well as a range of social activities which would appeal to all democraphics.
There seems to be a good sense of community here and things going on for the children. But Chester Road really divides the area.
I use the library a lot to finish off my crosswords and quizzes, but I try to avoid the local pubs. There can be some anti-social behaviour.
I would go down to the Robin Hood for food occasionally. The biggest issue is crossing the busy roads.
I'm not a resident but I would visit more if there were more restaurants and cafes. Although I wouldn't go into the subways at night.
Café
Sheltered Housing
Housing for homeless people on site would provide both work and support to the occupants.
Community run café would provide a new meeting point for the local population. This space could double as a bar/venue, which would address the lack of night life.
Homeless Community
Local Population
The bringing of these two groups together would help to create a dialogue to improve understanding of Manchester's homelessness problem. This would create an interdependence to the mutual benefit of both.
There seems to be a good sense of community here and things going on for the younger children. But Chester Road really divides the area.
