Lighting Conditions

Upward facing lighting, as well as minimal window detailing will ensure visual continuity from inside to outside spaces. This is important as a part of breaking down barriers between residents and the local community.

Similarly, windows in the communal parts of the building will have small mullions to allow residents views outside. These will be supported by the structural cantilever, meaning that there will be no need for obstructive columns. Reflective concrete screed flooring will help to bounce this light around these internal spaces.

Looking at light path diagrams, you can see that solar gains along some of the facades may be too much, making the building feel uncomfortably warm.

Using a mixture of vegetation and timber louvres will help to mitigate against this. These louvres will also cast interesting patterns across the floor at certain times of the day.
